Jon Donnell, former president of Dell Webb Sun Cities, has developed residential projects all around the USA and he is a highly regarded member of the barrier island community. We called on him to offer comments and he provided interesting points for consideration.
He points out several factors which need to be well understood by all parties if this project proceeds down the path of serious planning and negotiations. He also provides good questions which need to be walked back to city hall for their consideration. He points out that if great plans and creative solutions can arise from the creative thinking and planning of one good developer, then consider how much better the concept might become if there were several qualified developers driving other drawing boards.
Overall, Jon seemed to lean towards thinking about the long range benefits and gains by the community. There is probably going to be a net plus for all involved.
